HYPE Token (2026): How to Buy HYPE, Tokenomics, Buybacks and Unlocks
How to buy HYPE: the direct way is Hyperliquid's own spot market. Deposit USDC on Arbitrum (minimum 5 USDC) and buy HYPE/USDC on the Spot tab at 0.070% taker / 0.040% maker.
Buying on Hyperliquid spot needs an account, so that comes first. Join with HOLYGRAIL before your first deposit: 4% off trading fees on your first $25M.
No code can be added after $10,000 of volume. Hyperliquid is not available to US persons; see buying HYPE in the US. We earn a commission on referred accounts' fees; it never raises yours.
HYPE also trades on Binance, Bybit, OKX, Coinbase and Kraken (checked October 22, 2026); buying on Hyperliquid lets you stake it from the same balance.
Where HYPE trades, the buying steps, how much exists and who holds it, what has been unlocked so far, and how fee buybacks work. Supply, staking, buyback and unlock figures come from Hyperliquid's public API; rules from the official docs and the Hyper Foundation.
— How to buy HYPE now comes first, with an October 22 screenshot of the HYPE/USDC spot market, an exchange list read from each exchange's API and a section on buying HYPE in the US. New: the official contributor vesting terms, a table of HYPE unlocked to contributors so far, buybacks against staking emissions and a list of buyback trackers.

How to Buy HYPE on Hyperliquid, Step by Step
Buying on Hyperliquid puts the tokens straight into the HyperCore spot balance you stake from. You pay no exchange withdrawal fee and need no bridge.
Create an account. Open app.hyperliquid.xyz/join/HOLYGRAIL and connect an EVM wallet (Rabby, MetaMask, WalletConnect, Coinbase Wallet) or log in with email. The join link applies code HOLYGRAIL: 4% off fees on your first $25M of volume.
Enable trading. Click "Enable Trading" and sign the gas-less message.
Deposit. Send USDC on Arbitrum (minimum 5 USDC; email-login accounts also accept USDC on Ethereum, Base and Polygon), or deposit BTC, ETH, SOL and several other assets through Unit. Many exchanges can withdraw USDC directly to Hyperliquid; check whether the withdrawal lands on HyperCore, where you trade, or on the HyperEVM. Details are in the deposit guide.
Buy HYPE/USDC. Open the Spot tab or go straight to app.hyperliquid.xyz/trade/HYPE/USDC, and place a limit order (0.040% maker) or a market order (0.070% taker). The fill lands in your spot balance immediately. Don't confuse it with the default "HYPE" market on the Trade screen, which is the perpetual (up to 10x): a perp position is not a token and cannot be staked. Spot orders must be at least 10 USDC.
Optionally stake. Move HYPE from Spot to Staking and pick a validator. The fee discount applies once your staked balance passes a tier threshold (table). Validator choice and the yield-versus-discount trade-off are in the Hyperliquid staking guide.
The HYPE/USDC spot market (pair @107) on app.hyperliquid.xyz, logged out, October 22, 2026 at 02:33 UTC. The fee line under the order form reads 0.0700% / 0.0400% (taker / maker).
Spot pairs on Hyperliquid: HYPE/USDC, HYPE/USDT0 and HYPE/USDE (spotMeta, October 22, 2026). The full onboarding flow with screenshots is in how to use Hyperliquid, and the spot order form in our Hyperliquid spot trading guide.

Coinbase International's HYPE-USDC was cancel-only on October 22, 2026. Upbit and Bithumb, Korea's largest exchanges, do not list HYPE (their "HYPER" markets are a different token). CoinGecko's tickers endpoint counted 82 HYPE pairs on 64 venues on October 22, 2026; its volumes are self-reported by the exchanges.
HYPE bought on an exchange has to be withdrawn to Hyperliquid before you can stake it or use it for fee discounts, which adds that exchange's withdrawal fee. HyperEVM DEXs also swap HYPE, with gas paid in HYPE; the tokens must move back to HyperCore before you can stake them.
Can you buy HYPE in the US?
Not on Hyperliquid. Its Terms of Use (section 1.6, re-read October 22, 2026) say the interface is not available to "persons or entities who reside in, are located in, are incorporated in, or have a registered office in the United States of America or Ontario, Canada". US residents who want the token use US-facing venues instead: Coinbase (HYPE/USD), Kraken (HYPE/USD and HYPE/EUR; access depends on verified residency), Binance.US (HYPE/USD and HYPE/USDT) and Robinhood (tradable, except in New York). State rules differ between venues, so check each one's availability page for your state. What US residents can and cannot do on Hyperliquid itself is covered in Hyperliquid and US users.
What Is the HYPE Token and What Is It Used For?
HYPE is the native token of Hyperliquid, a self-funded Layer 1 blockchain that runs the largest on-chain perpetual futures exchange. Hyperliquid's consensus, HyperBFT, secures two parts: HyperCore, with fully on-chain perpetual and spot order books, and the HyperEVM, an Ethereum-compatible smart-contract layer where the DeFi apps of the Hyperliquid ecosystem run. The docs put HyperCore's capacity at about 200,000 orders per second with a median end-to-end latency of 200 ms for a co-located client; the Hyper Foundation's site shows a block time of 0.07 seconds and 2,806,802 users (October 22, 2026). Hyperliquid listed 179 perp markets and 349 spot pairs at the last build and did $6.15B of perp volume in 24 hours (as of November 3, 2026). Hyperliquid Labs has taken no external capital, so there is no VC allocation of HYPE, and the docs say trading fees go "entirely" to the community.

The headline split is 38.888% future emissions and community rewards, 31% genesis distribution, 23.8% core contributors, 6% Foundation, 0.3% grants and 0.012% HIP-2. The airdrop plus the reserve address come to 69.9% of supply, which is exactly 31% + 38.888% + 0.012%: the genesis tokens nobody claimed went to the emissions reserve, as the announcement said they would.
Why CoinGecko shows a different supply and market cap
The Hyperliquid API (read October 22, 2026) treats as circulating everything outside the emissions reserve and four flagged addresses (the contributor address, the Assistance Fund, the zero address and the dead address): 302.0M HYPE, or ≈$24.38B at $80.71. CoinGecko (read October 22, 2026) reports 222.4M circulating and a $17.95B market cap (rank #11), and a total supply of 955.3M instead of 998.8M. The total-supply gap of about 43.5M is close to the 48.2M HYPE in the Assistance Fund, which validators voted to recognise as burned on December 24, 2025 but which the API's total still counts. Its fully diluted value is $77.07B; ours, on the 1B cap, is ≈$80.71B.
HYPE Unlock Schedule: Official Terms and What Has Unlocked
What is official. The genesis post says core contributor tokens were locked for one year after genesis, with most vesting schedules completing between 2027 and 2028 and some continuing after 2028. That is the whole public schedule: no monthly calendar and no amounts. The genesis airdrop was fully unlocked from day one, and the emissions reserve is released only as staking rewards (about 26,975 HYPE a day between the October 14 and October 22 API reads, our calculation).
What happened on-chain. The contributor allocation address sent nothing out in its first year. Since November 29, 2025 it has sent HYPE out in monthly batches, each one unstaked about 7 days earlier (the staking queue is 7 days). The Hyperliquid API, read on October 22, 2026, shows these transfers:

Source: api.hyperliquid.xyz/info userNonFundingLedgerUpdates, delegatorHistory and delegatorRewards for the contributor address flagged non-circulating by tokenDetails (address not printed). Total sent out: 9,542,470 HYPE. Where the HYPE went after it left the address is not shown here; the October 7 batch went to five addresses, and press reports quote a co-founder describing it as an OTC sale to one institutional buyer.
Why the balance barely moves. The address keeps its whole balance staked, and staking rewards (9,600,034 HYPE since December 2024, about 14,161 a day on October 22, 2026) have roughly matched what it sent out. October's 3,750,000 HYPE batch took the balance below the genesis amount for the first time; rewards have since lifted it back to 238,057,560 (October 22, 2026).
The next unlock. Since January 2026 every batch has been transferred on the 6th or 7th of the month after an unstake on the 25th to 30th of the previous month. A co-founder said in December 2025, as reported by The Block, that distributions "if any" would take place on the 6th of the month. On October 22, 2026 the entire balance was staked with no withdrawal pending, so no transfer could complete within 7 days of that reading. Unlock trackers publish a fixed monthly amount from their own vesting models; the batches above have been much smaller in most months and much larger in October, so treat those calendars as estimates.
HYPE Buybacks and Burn: How the Assistance Fund Works
The fee documentation is explicit: "fees are entirely directed to the community (HLP, the assistance fund, and deployers)". The Assistance Fund lives at the system address 0xfefefefefefefefefefefefefefefefefefefefe. It "converts trading fees to HYPE in a fully automated manner as part of the L1 execution", and "HYPE in the assistance fund is burned, removing the tokens permanently from the circulating and total supply." On December 24, 2025 the Hyper Foundation announced that a stake-weighted validator vote had formally recognised the fund's HYPE as burned (85% of stake for, 7% against, 8% abstaining). Spot and HIP-3 deployers may keep up to half of the fees on their own markets; HyperEVM base fees are burned too.
We pulled the fund's fills from the public API. In the 7 days to October 22, 2026 it placed buy orders only, acquiring 147,250 HYPE for $11.7M, or about $1.7M a day. Over the 17 full UTC days the API still returns (October 5–21; it keeps only the most recent 10,000 fills), daily buying ranged from $0.80M to $9.12M, because buybacks track trading volume. The fund held 48,183,950 HYPE (≈$3.89B).

Buybacks against emissions. Between the two reads the fund's balance grew by about 21,532 HYPE a day while the emissions reserve paid out about 26,975 HYPE a day in staking rewards (our calculation from the same API). In that window, new HYPE from staking slightly outpaced the HYPE the fund took off the market. AQAv2 adds a second stream: stablecoins that opt into the "aligned quote asset" v2 spec share about 90% of their cost-adjusted reserve yield on Hyperliquid supply, paid into the fund 8 days after each 30-day interval; the docs publish no dollar figures.

HYPE Price and Market Cap (Dated, Not Predicted)
On October 22, 2026, the HYPE/USDC spot book on Hyperliquid had a mid price of $80.71 (on October 14, 2026 it was $80.35; CoinGecko showed $80.66 on October 22, 2026). Prices move constantly, so check the live book before you trade. CoinGecko's all-time high is $97.96 (September 23, 2026) and its all-time low $3.81 (launch day, November 29, 2024). HYPE also trades as a perpetual on Hyperliquid with up to 10x leverage; its funding, margin tiers and oracle are on our HYPE perp page.
We don't publish price targets. If you are judging HYPE's future, these are the inputs you can check: (1) revenue, meaning trading volume and therefore buybacks, plus AQAv2 yield; (2) supply: 30.2% circulating, a 41% emissions reserve released as staking rewards, and contributor distributions; (3) demand sinks: 442.1M HYPE staked for yield and fee discounts, deployer stakes and HyperEVM gas; (4) competition from low-fee perp DEXs such as Lighter and Aster and from CEXs. To weigh HYPE against other exchange tokens, see HYPE vs ASTER vs LIT. Nothing on this page is investment advice.
Buybacks: 147,250 HYPE in the 7 days to October 22, 2026, against 144,008 HYPE in the 7 days to October 14, 2026.
Total supply fell by 22,351 HYPE between October 14, 2026 and October 22, 2026.
Contributor batch: 3,750,000 HYPE left the contributor allocation on October 7, 2026, the largest batch so far.
September 24, 2026: Binance lists HYPE spot (HYPE/USDT, HYPE/USDC and HYPE/TRY).
September 23, 2026: all-time high of $97.96 (CoinGecko).

Worked example. A trader doing $2M of taker perp volume a month at tier 0 pays $900 in fees. Staking just over 100 HYPE (about $8,071 at $80.71 on October 22, 2026) for Bronze cuts that to $810. Silver, at just over 1,000 HYPE, cuts it to $765: $135 a month or $1,620 a year. That comes on top of the staking yield and the 4% referral discount. The full tier maths is in Hyperliquid fees explained.
How HYPE Staking Works
Spot → Staking is instant. Each delegation to a validator is locked for 1 day; after that you can undelegate back to your staking balance.
Staking → Spot goes through a 7-day unstaking queue.
Reward rate is inversely proportional to the square root of total stake: about 2.37% a year at 400M staked. With 442.1M staked on October 22, 2026, active validators' predicted APR on October 19, 2026 was 2.12%–2.23% after commission. Rewards accrue every minute, are paid daily and compound automatically.
Screenshots, validator selection and the yield-versus-discount trade-off are in the Hyperliquid staking guide.
Hyperliquid HYPE Airdrop: Who Was Eligible?
HYPE had no token sale. At genesis on November 29, 2024, 270.9M HYPE went to 94,019 addresses that had earned points for using Hyperliquid during its points programme (November 2023 to May 2024, followed by an L1 phase that ran to November 2024). The median recipient received 64.42 HYPE. No second airdrop had been announced as of October 22, 2026, and trading today does not make you eligible for anything promised. Our airdrop guide covers how to check a past allocation and what the rumoured Hyperliquid Season 3 airdrop is based on.
Risks to Consider
Supply overhang. 30.2% of max supply circulates. 238.1M HYPE sits in the contributor address (October 22, 2026) on a vesting window that runs to 2028 and beyond with no published calendar, and 410.6M will be emitted as staking rewards.
Validator concentration. Hyper Foundation validators hold about 47.1% of stake (October 22, 2026). Consensus needs more than two-thirds of stake to be honest, which is why the docs stress delegating only to trusted validators.
Liquidity lock. Staked HYPE takes 7 days to reach your spot balance, so you cannot sell into a fast move.
Platform incidents. Validators voted to delist the JELLY perp in March 2025 after a squeeze against HLP. The same month, a whale's leveraged ETH long cost HLP about $4M (no exploit, per Hyperliquid), and maximum leverage was cut afterwards. In December 2024, widely reported claims about North Korea-linked wallets triggered large withdrawals and a sharp HYPE sell-off (press reports).
Competition and regulation. Low-fee rivals and rule changes in major markets can reduce Hyperliquid's volume, and with it the buybacks.
Volatility. HYPE went from $3.81 on launch day to a high of $97.96. Moves of that size can happen in reverse.
FAQ
How do I buy HYPE?
The direct route: create a Hyperliquid account through app.hyperliquid.xyz/join/HOLYGRAIL (code HOLYGRAIL gives 4% off trading fees on your first $25M of volume), deposit USDC on Arbitrum (minimum 5 USDC), open the Spot tab and buy HYPE/USDC (0.070% taker, 0.040% maker), then move it to Staking if you want the fee discount. HYPE also trades on Binance, Bybit, OKX, Coinbase and Kraken (checked October 22, 2026); HYPE bought there has to be withdrawn to Hyperliquid before you can stake it. Hyperliquid itself is not available to US persons.
Can I buy HYPE in the US?
Not on Hyperliquid: its Terms (section 1.6) exclude persons and entities that reside in, are located in or are incorporated in the United States. US-facing venues list it instead: Coinbase (HYPE/USD), Kraken (HYPE/USD and HYPE/EUR; access depends on verified residency), Binance.US (HYPE/USD and HYPE/USDT) and Robinhood (tradable, except in New York), all checked October 22, 2026. State rules vary, so check the venue's own availability page for your state.
What is HYPE crypto?
HYPE is the native token of Hyperliquid, a Layer 1 blockchain built around the largest on-chain perpetual futures exchange. It is staked to validators to secure the chain, used as gas on the HyperEVM, gives 5–40% off trading fees when staked, and is bought back with trading fees by the protocol's Assistance Fund. Maximum supply is 1,000,000,000 HYPE; 302.0M were circulating on October 22, 2026 according to the Hyperliquid API.
When is the next HYPE unlock?
There is no official unlock calendar. The Hyper Foundation's genesis post says core contributor tokens were locked for one year after genesis, with most vesting schedules completing between 2027 and 2028 and some continuing after 2028. On-chain, HYPE has left the contributor allocation in monthly batches since November 29, 2025; since January 2026 every batch has been transferred on the 6th or 7th of the month, after an unstake 7 days earlier. On October 22, 2026 the whole balance was staked with no withdrawal pending, so no transfer could complete within 7 days of that reading. Calendars on tracker sites are their own models, not announcements.
How much HYPE has been unlocked so far?
9,542,470 HYPE left the contributor allocation address between November 29, 2025 and October 7, 2026 (Hyperliquid API, read October 22, 2026), about 4.0% of the 238M it received at genesis. The largest batch was 3,750,000 HYPE on October 7, 2026. Staking rewards of 9,600,034 HYPE have flowed into the same address, which is why its balance (238,057,560 on October 22, 2026) is still close to the genesis amount.
What is the HYPE buyback?
Hyperliquid's trading fees are sent to the community, and the Assistance Fund converts its share into HYPE automatically as part of L1 execution. It bought 147,250 HYPE for $11.7M in the 7 days to October 22, 2026 (our tally of its public fills). The HYPE it holds was formally recognised as burned by a validator vote on December 24, 2025. Dashboards that track it are listed in the buybacks section.
Is HYPE a good buy?
We don't give investment advice, but the checkable facts are these. For: the protocol is self-funded with no VC allocation, fees go to the community rather than a company, and the Assistance Fund bought 147,250 HYPE ($11.7M) in the 7 days to October 22, 2026. Against: only 30.2% of the maximum supply circulates, 238.1M HYPE sits in one non-circulating contributor address, staking emissions currently exceed the fund's buying, and Hyper Foundation validators hold about 47.1% of stake.
Why is HYPE coin falling?
We can't attribute a price move to one cause, and nobody can reliably. What we can show: HYPE traded at $80.71 on October 22, 2026, about 17.6% below CoinGecko's all-time high of $97.96 (September 23, 2026). The inputs that move it are trading volume (which sets the size of the buybacks: $1.7M a day in the week to October 22, 2026), new supply (staking rewards from a 410.6M HYPE reserve, and contributor distributions), and the wider crypto market.
Will HYPE reach $100?
Nobody can know, and we don't make price predictions. For scale: CoinGecko's all-time high is $97.96 on September 23, 2026, and at $80.71 on October 22, 2026 HYPE would need to rise about 23.9% to reach $100. Its all-time low was $3.81 on launch day, November 29, 2024.
Can I buy HYPE on Binance?
Yes. Binance's global exchange opened HYPE/USDT, HYPE/USDC and HYPE/TRY spot trading on September 24, 2026; its API showed all three pairs trading on October 21, 2026. HYPE is also on Bybit, OKX, Coinbase, Kraken and dozens of other venues (82 pairs on 64 venues on CoinGecko on October 22, 2026), and natively on Hyperliquid as HYPE/USDC. Buying on Hyperliquid lets you stake without a withdrawal.
What is the total and circulating supply of HYPE?
Maximum supply is 1,000,000,000 HYPE. On October 22, 2026 the Hyperliquid API reported a total supply of 998.84M, a circulating supply of 302.0M and 410.6M in the future-emissions reserve that pays staking rewards. The API's total still includes the 48.2M HYPE in the Assistance Fund, which validators voted to recognise as burned; CoinGecko leaves it out and shows a lower circulating figure (222.4M on October 22, 2026).
Who was eligible for the Hyperliquid HYPE airdrop, and is there another one?
The genesis distribution on November 29, 2024 went to 94,019 addresses that had earned points for using Hyperliquid during its points programme; the median recipient got 64.42 HYPE. There was no sale and no VC allocation. No second airdrop had been announced as of October 22, 2026. Our airdrop guide covers eligibility and the status of a second distribution.
Does holding HYPE reduce my Hyperliquid trading fees?
Only if you stake it. Staking more than 10 HYPE gives 5% (Wood), more than 100 gives 10% (Bronze), more than 1,000 gives 15% (Silver), more than 10,000 gives 20% (Gold), more than 100,000 gives 30% (Platinum) and more than 500,000 gives 40% (Diamond). The discount stacks with your volume tier and with the 4% referral discount from code HOLYGRAIL.
